A 25-year-old Indian student, who was stabbed by two attackers in his abdomen early this week in Australia, has been released from hospital today.

Baljinder Singh, who was attacked on last Monday night in one of several racial attacks on India students in Australia, was released from the Alfred hospital today, Australian media reported.

Singh was attacked near the Carnegie train station by two armed men, who demanded money from him. As he was searching through his bag to hand over his wallet, Singh was stabbed in the abdomen with the screwdriver.

Singh screamed for his life while his attackers laughed and fled the scene. "I bent down and one guy stabbed me," Singh said adding "I just wanted to save my life and yelled "just don't kill me."

"They just laughed when they stabbed me in the stomach. They laughed at me...I was screaming 'don't kill me, don't kill me'."

Several people ran from an apartment block on hearing his cries for help, which police believe saved his life.

Another student, Shravan Kumar from Andhra Pradesh, was attacked with a screwdriver over the weekend along with his three friends and is in coma.

Doctors have said they were "not very optimistic" about chances of his recovery.
