Taliban militants have killed six persons accused of spying for the US in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal region, local tribesmen said on Tuesday.

The bullet-riddled bodies of two men, both Afghan nationals, were found near Miranshah, the main city in North Waziristan, while four bodies were found near Mirali, another major town in the region, the tribesmen said.

Notes written in Pashto, the local language, and placed near the bodies said the men were killed for spying on the local Taliban on behalf of US.

The notes warned that any one spying for the US, the Pakistan Army and Afghanistan would meet the same fate.

They said that the men had confessed to their 'crime'. Around 15 people have been killed in Waziristan tribal region on espionage charges this month.

Taliban claim that spies are providing inputs about militant hideouts in Pakistan's tribal belt to US authorities in Afghanistan, who then use it to carry out drone attacks.

US drones regularly fire missiles on militant hideouts in North and South Waziristan tribal regions. The militants believe Pakistani authorities too are passing on information to the US but the government has rejected such charges.

Pakistan says that the US has carried out around 50 missile attacks in the tribal region last year and at least two this month. The country's top leadership have described the strikes as counterproductive for the war on terror.

Last month, the Taliban released a video of statements by alleged spies and showed a man being shot by the militants after he said he was a spy.

The US says Al-Qaeda and Taliban-linked militants operate from Pakistan's tribal regions, from where they organise cross-border attacks on American and allied forces in Afghanistan.
