Stella Rekeic gave Patryk the sausage despite warnings from his mother, Agnieszka Bialek, that he would choke, Daily Mail reported.
Rekeic, 28, went on trial as she is accused of the baby's manslaughter. She, however, denies the charge.
Rekeic had been left in charge of the baby while her friend made a quick visit to shops, the jury was told.
When Bialek returned home in Slough, Berkshire, she found her son lying lifeless, with his lips turning blue. Some of the sausage was lodged in his throat. Rekiec, meanwhile, had gone outside to get herself a beer.
Despite efforts of his mother, a housemate and paramedics, Patryk was pronounced dead at hospital May 18, 2008.
The jury was told that a week before the death, as well as on the day the incident took place, Bialek had told Rekiec not to feed her son frankfurters as he had choked the first time he tried it.
