The Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Road in Pakistan's South Waziristan region, built by the UAE at a cost of $38 million, has been opened to the public.
Pakistan Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, the UAE's ambassador to Pakistan Eisa Abdullah Al Basha Al Nuaimi and director of the UAE Assistance Programme to Pakistan Abdullah Khalifa Al Ghafli inaugurated the road.

Al Ghafli said the inauguration of the road reflects a long history of solidarity and cohesion between the UAE and Pakistan.
He said the road would ease trade exchange for the people as it shortens the distance between Karachi and Kabul by 400 km.
The Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation has played a pivotal role in financing roads and bridges being implemented by the UAE Assistance Programme to Pakistan. The foundation has so far given $60.9 million for such projects.
