A Russian missile struck an outdoor market in eastern Ukraine on Wednesday, killing 17 people and wounding dozens, officials said. Associated Press journalists at the site of the attack in the city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region saw covered bodies on the ground and emergency workers extinguishing fires at market stalls, with blackened and mangled cars nearby.


Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko 32 people were wounded after the market was hit by a ballistic missile. Fires due to the strike burned about 30 pavilions at the market. Twenty shops, power lines, an administrative building and the floor of an apartment building were damaged.

Blinken visits Kyiv in show of support

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit on Wednesday, hours after Russia launched its first missile attack in a week against the Ukrainian capital. His trip aimed to assess Ukraine’s 3-month-old counteroffensive and signal continued US support for Kyiv’s efforts. He is expected to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba to discuss the ongoing counteroffensive and reconstruction efforts.
