UK records another 31,348 Covid cases

Country also report 122 Covid-related fatalities; officials say the virus still poses a risk to the nation

Another 31,348 people in Britain have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of Coronavirus cases in the country to 7,631,233, according to official figures released on Saturday. The country also recorded another 122 Covid-related deaths. The total number of Covid-related deaths in Britain now stands at 136,105. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test. The latest data came as England’s Deputy Chief Medical Officer Jonathan Van-Tam said that Covid still posed a risk to the country. He urged the public to listen to health experts, saying, “If your gaming PC develops a fault, don’t take it to a plumber and ask them to fix it.”

Visas for truck drivers

Faced with a supply crisis of essential goods due to a shortage of hauliers and truck drivers, the UK government will offer over 10,000 temporary visas to meet the shortages from nearby European countries.

Delta surge in Australian state

Australia’s Victoria state on Sunday reported 779 new Covid-19 infections and two deaths. The daily rise was the state’s second-highest, after the 847 cases logged on Saturday, as officials battle to contain a Delta variant outbreak that has taken root since midyear.
