In a major boost to the defence cooperation between India and Australia, a major Air-to-Air refuelling agreement has been signed between the two countries. 22 November,2024 01:33 PM ISTOn Tuesday, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved 10 major acquisition proposals totaling Rs 1,44,716 crore. Most of this budget, 99%, will support indigenous products under the Buy (Indian) and Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured) categories. The approval includes the procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs), which are advanced tanks with superior capabilities for mobility, protection, and real-time awareness. The DAC also approved Air Defence Fire Control Radars for tracking aerial targets and Forward Repair Teams (Tracked) for in-field repairs by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited. Additionally, three proposals were greenlit to boost the Indian Coast Guard's (ICG) abilities, including Dornier-228 aircraft and advanced patrol vessels. The meeting ended with a tribute to the late ICG DG Rakesh Pal, who passed away on August 18, 2024. The Defence Minister and DAC members honored his significant contributions with a moment of silence.
04 September,2024 12:15 PM ISTThe Cabinet Committee on Security has cleared the Indian Navy’s proposals to buy 220 BrahMos extended-range missiles for its warships. The contract will be signed on March 05 and 220 BrahMos will be worth around Rs 20,000 crore. The extended-range BrahMos is speculated to have an extended range of around 800 km. This would be a major ‘Make in India’ success for the missile system built with Russia’s partnership. India’s BrahMos is a universal long-range supersonic cruise missile system that can be launched from land, sea, and air. Not only to just Indian Navy, but the indigenous BrahMos missile system will also be exported to the Philippines. In January, DRDO Chief Dr Samir Kamat informed ANI about the export of India’s missile system to the Philippines.
22 February,2024 12:29 PM ISTIndian Defence officials on January 29 informed that the Indian Navy warship INS Sumitra rescued fishermen hijacked by Somali pirates. In the latest update the Indian Navy on January 31 shared a video of the rescue operation. In the video, the Pakistani-Iranian crew expressed gratitude and explained how pirates dumped their weapons after seeing the Indian Navy and they also raised Indian Navy zindabad . Later in the video, the crew chanted ‘All hail Indian Navy’ and ‘Thank you for saving our lives’The incident happened about 700 nautical miles west of Kochi in the Arabian Sea. The Iranian fishing vessel FV Iman was boarded with around 17 crew members which was hijacked by pirates. INS Sumitra intercepted the vessel and acted by the established SOPs to coerce the pirates for the safe release of the crew. Later, the FV was subsequently sanitized and released for onward transit. The latest attack came amid a series of attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on cargo vessels in the Red Sea and other crucial business routes
02 February,2024 11:38 AM ISTThe Indian Army has decided to bolster its combat capabilities near the Pakistan border in the western desert. In that series, six Apache attack helicopters will be deployed near international borders at a military station in Jodhpur. The Indian Air Force already has a fleet of 22 Apache helicopters deployed at both western and northern borders. The American attack helicopters were deployed in the eastern Ladakh sector soon after the Chinese aggression started in 2020. The original equipment manufacturer Boeing announced in August last year that it had started the production of Apache Helicopters for the Indian Army at its state-of-art facility in the US. The production process builds upon an ongoing collaboration with Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) which plays a pivotal role in the manufacturing of AH-64E fuselages at its cutting-edge facility in Hyderabad.
03 January,2024 01:25 PM ISTIn a big boost to Air Defence System, India has strongly demonstrated the firepower of its Akash surface-to-air (SAM) weapon system. With a single-firing unit, the Akash weapon system simultaneously engaged and destroyed 4 unmanned targets during recent Air Force Exercise Astrashakti 2023. As per officials, 4 targets coming from same direction in close formation were split to attack their defence assets from multiple directions simultaneously. With this, India has become 1st to demonstrate capability of engaging 4 targets simultaneously at such ranges by command guidance using single firing unit. Notably, Akash has been deployed by the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army at key locations to counter threats. The current firing was done from the system, which was ordered in September 2019 as a repeat order from the IAF. The Akash weapon system is also one of the indigenous defence systems that have bagged orders from international customers. Notably, it is also being constantly upgraded by DRDO scientists involved in it and they may get more orders from Southeast Asia and Middle East.

Earlier today, Rajnath Singh conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government announced a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu on December 07 due to severe flooding in several parts of these districts in the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung.

The system is a joint production of the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Israel Aerospace Industries. DRDO has made significant success in terms of developing air defence weapons for both ground-based and warship-based systems. Wing Commander Ajit Bhaskar Vasane shared the details of the newly inducted MRSAM Air Defence System. The Indian defence forces already have the S-400 air defence systems, which can hit targets at 400 Km maximum distance.
