India is all set to hold a virtual G20 Leaders' Summit on Nov 22 under the chairmanship of PM Modi. The virtual G20 Leaders' meeting will witness a major gathering of world leaders. Leaders of all G20 members, including African Union, as well as nine guest countries have been invited. For the first time amid India-Canada row, PM Justin Trudeau will attend the G20 Leaders' Summit. PM Justin Trudeau will attend the National Caucus meeting. Canadian Prime Minister will also attend the Question Period. The summit will address key issues, select outcomes, and review developments that have taken place in New Delhi G20 Summit. During his address, Dr Jaishankar said, “It was appropriate that we started our G20 presidency by convening the voice of the Global South Summit, an exercise which involved 125 nations of the South. During the course of that exercise and the deliberations which took place through the various ministerial tracks and engagement groups, it was very clear to us that the global south, in addition to bearing the consequences of structural inequities and historical burdens, was plagued by the impact of economic concentration, was suffering from the devastating consequences of the COVID and was beset by conflict, tensions and disputes which have stressed and distorted the international economy.”

In a landmark decision during G20 Summit 2023, the African Union became a permanent member of the group. Throughout its presidency, India has been making a strong pitch for the countries which are not a part of the G20 grouping. Nine nations, which are not a part of the group, were invited for the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi. Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and UAE were invited to the G20 New Delhi Summit.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on September 13 recalled successful conclusion of 18th G20 Summit 2023 during his address at exhibition of manuscripts organised by SAMHiTA (South Asian Manuscript Histories and Textual Archive) at the India International Centre. He said that “We have certainly had an era of economic rebalancing which is actually how the G20 itself came about. We are seeing what I would call a return of history. A return of history in terms of a civilization state, India, expanding its influence, increasing its weight in the global order, building many more relationships and taking on more responsibilities...We have certainly had an era of economic rebalancing which is actually how the G20 itself came about. We are in the midst of political rebalancing...To me, one equally important facet is cultural rebalancing," said the diplomat.
