As the threat of mischievous drone attacks and piracy bids loom large in Arabian Sea, Indian Coast Guard Director General Rakesh Pal assured that the organisation is ready to tackle threats of drone attacks in Arabian sea and protect India’s maritime interests. “We have got eyes and ears everywhere, we have got aviation assets are flying day and night. When we generally spot hostile ships or vessels, we generally track them down. If the ships are not responding we zero on to them and make sure they are boarded,” said ICG DG Rakesh Pal while talking to ANI on the drone attacks in the Arabian Sea.

According to an official press release, a joint operation by the DRI with Indian Coast Guard (ICG) codenamed Operation Khojbeen was launched on May 7. Under the said operation, Coast Guard ship Sujeet, with DRI officials onboard, maintained a close watch near the Exclusive Economic Zone. After several days of continuous search and monitoring amidst very rough seas, two suspected boats 'Prince' and 'Little Jesus' were noticed moving towards India. Both the Indian boats were intercepted by officers of ICG and DRI on May 18, off the coast of Lakshadweep Islands. A thorough search of both the boats was carried out at the Coast Guard District Headquarters at Kochi, which resulted in the recovery of 218 packets of 1 kg each of heroin, estimated to be around Rs 1,526 crore.

The ongoing search operations for the missing Indian aircraft indicate the coast guard personnel might still be trapped inside the plane, an official said. Inspector General of the Indian Coast Guard, SP Sharma said search teams from the navy, coast guard and the police were continuing their search for the 'Dornier' aircraft which went missing on June 08 off the coast of Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
