On Constitution Day 2024, Union Minister Chirag Paswan remarked, "Simply telling lies without any evidence does not make them true. The truth is that those who are now so concerned about the Constitution, what did they do to it in the past? If anyone is responsible for damaging the Constitution, it is the Congress government. Let’s remember the Emergency of 1975, when the Constitution and democracy were both undermined. The same people who were responsible for this are now claiming to be the greatest defenders of the Constitution. Their actions speak differently from their words." Paswan emphasized that the history of the Emergency should not be forgotten in the current political context.
