Southern Spain was battered by torrential rain and powerful winds on Wednesday, flooding streets, halting trains, and triggering over 1,000 emergency incidents across Andalusia. The provinces of Seville and Huelva were the hardest hit, with cars submerged and public transport paralyzed. The chaos struck on the anniversary of the deadly Valencia floods, prompting Spain’s weather agency to issue a red alert and activate Andalusia’s flood emergency plan. Conditions began easing by Thursday as the storm moved eastward.

Record-breaking rainfall turned Ibiza into a flood zone, shutting the main airport road and swamping Ibiza Town. More than 254 litres of rain per square metre fell in just hours the wettest day since 1952. Red alerts remain as firefighters rescue trapped people and tourists face chaos.
