In a tragic incident, a boat carrying school children capsized in the Jhelum river in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on April 16. The Jhelum boat accident killed 4 people. The Srinagar Administration has launched a rescue operation in the area. A State Disaster Response Force team was also deployed. At least six persons including four children have died. Meanwhile, 4 bodies have been recovered, while others are missing. The boat which has capsized was ferrying children from Gandbal to Batwara in Srinagar. Continuous rains over last two days have led to an increase in the water levels of several water bodies, including Jhelum. Watch video

Rescue and search is operation underway in Ganderbal Nowgam area of ​​Srinagar. 3 people are still missing in the boat capsizing incident that occurred in the Jhelum River yesterday. According to DC Srinagar, Six bodies have been found so far. Officials said that the rescue operation continued till 11 pm last night but was halted due to darkness and heavy water flow in the river Jhelum. The Tridents squadron, now dubbed the 'Defender of the North,' has taken the place of the MiG-21 squadron. MiG-21 was traditionally responsible for countering the Pakistani threat at the Srinagar air base. The enhanced MiG-29s offer numerous advantages over the MiG-21s, which effectively safeguarded the Kashmir valley for an extended period. After undergoing upgrades, the MiG-29s now boast extended-range air-to-air missiles and air-to-ground weaponry.
