Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife appeared before a U.S. federal judge in Manhattan after being captured during a dramatic U.S. military operation ordered by President Donald Trump. Prosecutors accuse Maduro of narco-terrorism, cocaine trafficking, and partnering with violent drug cartels, while his defense claims sovereign immunity.    

Just days into his term, Mayor Mamdani called President Trump directly to register his "stern opposition." He branded the operation an "act of war" and a violation of international law, emphasizing that the "blatant pursuit of regime change".
