New York City enters a decisive new chapter as Zohran Mamdani officially takes office and moves fast. Sworn in during a midnight inauguration, the new mayor wasted no time signaling a sharp break from past administrations, launching immediate action aimed at landlord accountability, tenant protections and housing enforcement. In his opening hours, Mamdani made it clear that his administration “will not wait to deliver action”, positioning tenant rights at the center of City Hall’s agenda. Within hours of taking office, executive orders were rolled out to revive stalled enforcement mechanisms, confront long-standing housing violations and fast-track development pathways tied to safety and compliance. The civic body’s works over the past year seem to have given relief to citizens living in and commuting through the areas that are prone to chronic flooding between Dadar and Parel. Among those are Hindmata and King’s Circle, both of which were waterlogged on Tuesday after incessant downpour. But, once the rain stopped, both these spots were cleared of water, thanks to the holding tanks and water pumps. The BMC, however, faltered at one point the Milan subway. It was flooded like always and remained so even after the rain stopped, as the civic body forgot to install water pumps for the holding tank.
