Pakistan's new chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan believes they will have to keep the national Test and one-day squads away from Twenty20 cricket to improve in the longer formats of the game.

Addressing his first press conference since taking over as the new chief selector, the former Test opener Wednesday said the Twenty20 cricket had affected Pakistan's performance in Test and one-day cricket.

"It is because of Twenty20 that we have started performing poorly in Test cricket and sometimes our team can't even play out the full 50 overs in one-dayers," said Mohsin, who has replaced former Pakistan Test spinner Iqbal Qasim as the chief selector.

Mohsin said that currently Pakistan has just three or four players who can play international cricket in all three formats.

Speaking on a different issue, Mohsin said Pakistan will have to take steps to ensure that it has well-groomed back-up players.

"The problem with our cricket is that players stay in the team for 15-20 years and there is no room for back-up youngsters. What we need is to groom our second string players who are good enough for international cricket."
