Rizvi batsman scores 473 runs to create the record for the highest score in Harris Shield

Armaan Jaffer (15) entered the record books once again yesterday after scoring 473 runs en route to helping his team Rizvi Springfield pile on a whopping 821 runs for the loss of five wickets on Day Three of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association-Mumbai Indians Harris Shield Elite Division final against IES VN Sule Guruji (Dadar) at Matunga Gymkhana. Jaffer, who already holds the record for the highest individual score in Indian school cricket (498), now has the highest score in the Harris Shield to his name.

Armaan went past the previous Harris Shield record of 439, set by Rizvi Springfield’s Sarfaraaz Khan in 2009-10, with the help of 65 boundaries and 16 sixes.
His knock was ultimately brought to an end after Prathamesh Chavan took a catch off Heramb Parab. Armaan had a third wicket partnership of 631 runs with Siddharth Singh (177).

“Till tea time I was batting at 444 and thought that I could cross the 500-mark today. I thank my father who has always supported me and kept me going. I am a little disappointed that I missed the 500-mark but am satisfied with my performance. As my father always told me, ‘One mistake and you are back in pavilion’,” Armaan said.

Armaan’s uncle, Mumbai captain Wasim Jaffer, also held the same record once, scoring 403 in the Harris Shield. “I was not thinking about any record, nor about Sarfaraz’s 439 and not even about Wasim uncle’s 403. I was just following my coach’s (Raju Pathak) instructions. I am thankful to him for his motivation,” he added.

Like his uncle, Armaan hopes to play for Mumbai and surpass the number of Tests played by Wasim. “If I keep scoring runs, I am sure that I can make it to the Ranji team like my uncle. But my dream is to play more Tests than him for Mumbai. If he doesn’t retire till I make it to the Mumbai Ranji side, I would love to play alongside him,” he added.

Result: IES VN Sule Guruji (Dadar) 353 (Kunal Chalke 87; Vipul Rathod 3-38, Armaan Jaffer 3-39) vs Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) 823-5 (Armaan Jaffer 473; Siddharth Singh 177; Heram Parab 3-173 runs)u00a0
