BCCI's panel gets 'working'

The Board of Control for Cricket in India's working committee did more than just endorse the charges against suspended Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi yesterday.

According to sources, it was decided that 15 per cent of IPL tickets would be reserved for the host association and five per cent kept aside for the BCCI.

This news could bring a smile on the faces of former cricketers, many of whom were not given passes to watch the IPL games. Key members of the Mumbai Cricket Association stayed away from Mumbai Indians' games in protest.

With the franchises calling the shots as it were where tickets were concerned, prominent members of Mumbai's cricketing fraternity were forced to watch the games on television. And when passes were issued to watch the Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings final, some like former India captain Nari Contractor was asked to produce a badge alongwith the ticket.

From Navi Mumbai, he had to make his way home in South Mumbai. By bringing the host association into the inner ring of activity, the BCCI have made a good start towards making the IPL a less of an 'extraordinary' event.

"I am glad this issue has been taken up at the working committee quickly and former cricketers as well as office bearers will not have to go through inconvenience," said Contractor.

More 'host power' could avoid unsavoury incidents like the one involving former spinner and current selector Narendra Hirwani who reportedly had an argument with an IPL official over a seating issue.
