Brendon McCullum admits the decision he made to forego around half a million dollars to re-sign with New Zealand Cricket was a tough one to make.
McCullum was one of six Black Caps contracted to Indian Premier League teams who eventually opted for country above cash after concerns a scheduling clash between Australia's tour of New Zealand in March and the lucrative Twenty20 competition would see them turn their backs on New Zealand.
The wicketkeeper batsman, who captained the Kolkata Knights in this year's IPL, stands to lose around NZ$500,000 by only being available for half the IPL competition next year and was in no doubt it was one of the toughest decisions he had faced.
"It wasn't that I didn't want to play cricket for NZ but I guess the financial security that sort of money can provide for your family was a factor. It was difficult knowing how much money I was turning down and I also had to think about the captaincy at Kolkata." He told the Sunday News: "In the end, I feel very comfortable with the decision I made," he said.
