It was a learning experience for the Harvard University women's squash team at the Cricket club of India (CCI). Now, they move to Chennai, Delhi and Chandigarh.
They are ranked No 1 at the inter-collegiate level in the United States of America, but more than anything, the Harvard squash players will be aiming to enhance their cultural education of the country and foster a sense of bonding with the Indians.
Chief coach Satinder Bajwa, who is here along with assistant coach Chris Smith, said: "The main reason for the students coming to India is to get a cultural experience of a developing country. They have the facilities and infrastructure, but we want them to be aware of the different people around the world and give them a brief on the history of the sport since India holds a strong history in squash."
The Harvard eves played a few games of squash with the CCI members' kids. Their itinerary includes Chennai, Agra and finally Chandigarh where they will play against the children of Khelshala, a charitable trust that serves under-privileged children through sports.
Bajwa, is the founder of the 'Mind, Body and Game' academy in Chandigarh which gives underprivileged children an opportunity to play squash. He was also the manager and mentor of eight-time world squash champion Jansher Khan.
