Callaghan, who defeated testicular cancer over a decade ago to play for South Africa, has been appointed brand ambassador to help rescue the hospital that is in financial trouble as corporate sponsors are diverting funds elsewhere.
Callaghan's role is to encourage as many people as possible to come forward and pledge a small amount of R100 per head per month (Rs 565) to help raise funds for the hospital that is currently helping around 600 patients battle
diseases like cancer, HIV/Aids, TB etc. Callaghan, who played 29 ODIs for SA, has pledged his share and is determined to save the hospital that once saved him.
