Hobart Hurricanes began their Big Bash League Twenty20 campaign with a convincing 31-run victory over Perth Scorchers at the WACA Ground yesterday.
Electing to bat, Hurricanes managed a moderate 140. The home side in their reply lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for a paltry 109 with one ball to spare.
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who opened the batting for the Hurricanes, made a scratchy 17 off 19 balls before looping an easy catch to mid-off.
The batsmen who followed also found the going tough, with only three of them making it to 20 in the innings.
