Dhoni's unbeaten 87 in Hyderabad last Friday was the third time on the trot that England have failed to take his wicket following on from the last two matches of the ODI series back home.
On this occasion, Dhoni's innings proved crucial for humiliating defeat of Alastair Cook's men in the opening match of five.
Dernbach said: "There's no doubt Dhoni is a world-class player, but we need to find a way of restricting him and getting him out.
"If we can do that then it will work massively in our favour. In the games where India have done well, he is the man who has been destructive."
