Umpire Daryl Harper yesterday claimed India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni tried to intimidate him during the Kingston Test recently
Umpire Daryl Harper yesterday claimed India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni tried to intimidate him during the Kingston Test recently.
Harper, who has come under severe criticism for some poor decisions during the first Test against the West Indies, yesterday told ESPNCricinfo that Dhoni tried to intimidate him after pacer Praveen Kumar was removed from the attack for repeatedly running on the pitch.
Harper said that Dhoni approached him and said,u00a0 "We've had problems with you before, Daryl", which the umpire saw as an attempt to intimidate.
"I decided what he meant was that I was one umpire not influenced by any personalities or teams or boards. He hadn't been able to intimidate me, I think that was part of it," Harper said.
Harper further said that Dhoni should have been penalised by the International Cricket Council for his post-match conference comments on poor umpiring. Harper quit before his scheduled 96th and final Test in Dominica.u00a0
