Rajkot: Skipper Gautam Gambhir and his Australian opening partner Chris Lynn notched up their highest partnership for any wicket as Kolkata Knight Riders thrashed Gujarat Lions by 10 wickets here last night.

Gambhir remained not out on 76 (48 balls, 12x4) while Lynn scored an unbeaten 91 (41 balls 6x4) as KKR raced to 184 for no loss in the 14.5 overs after the Lions posted 183-4 batting first.

Earlier, Gambhir's decision to bowl first appeared to be justified by his spinners, particularly Kuldeep Yadav (2-25) and Piyush Chawla (1-33), who bowled well initially before Suresh Raina (68*) and Dinesh Karthik (47) took them apart.

In order to strengthen the team in the absence of key players Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo, the Lions pitchforked all four overseas batsmen.

But the move did not work as much as the thinktank may have expected as Jason Roy went for 14, Brendon McCullum for 35, after looking dangerous, Aaron Finch for 15 and Dwayne Smith remained not out on 0 without facing a ball. It was left to Raina to not only restore the innings but also post a substantial total.
