In total domination mode, Swami Vivekanand International School (Kandivli) crushed Shailendra Education Society (Dahisar) by a mammoth 496 runs during a Harris Shield U-16 match at Matunga Gymkhana yesterday.
Put in to bat, Swami Vivekanand notched up 529-6 after 45 overs, courtesy tons from Ganesh Masurkar (191) and Aryan Shrinivasan (107), who laid the foundation of the innings. Vivekanand although got off to a shaky start when opener Sai Naidu (37) failed to give his team a good start.
Swami off to a shaky start
Sai was caught at short third man. The other opener — Pranav Sanil’s innings was just the opposite. The confident-looking player was on fire adding 61 runs to the target in just 31 balls. However, the showstoppers for Swami Vivekanand were Ganesh and Aryan. Both the batsmen scored in tandem and registered a partnership of 286 runs.
Ganesh, who reached his century in just 56 deliveries, was a thrill to watch. However, he was caught and bowled in the 39th over by Aditya Mahadik (3-189). Within no time Aryan followed his teammate back to the pavillion.
In reply, Shailendra Education Society were bowled out for a paltry 33 in 17.1 overs. Sai was the pick of the bowlers ending with figures of 4-7.
Ganesh was elated with his performance and attributed his success to coach Shyamji Kanojia, but admitted he was itching to reach the 200-run mark. “I missed my 200 target. Our coach told us to play ground strokes and not shots in the air. I made most of my runs playing towards the covers. Aryan helped me complete my century,” Ganesh said.
Suved Parker scores 235*
In another match, Swami Vivekanand International School (Borivli) crushed Thakur Vidya Mandir High School (Kandivli) by 403 runs. Swami Vivekanand’s Suved Parkar’s unbeaten 235 was the highlight of the match. Thakur Vidyamandir hardly offered any resistance as they were bowled out for 99.
