"Big thx everyone, got my cap back! must have been @janbraai lamb offering...;-) quality crowd on boxing day, big for the boys," Sport24 quoted Smith's Twitter post, as saying.

An official Cricket South Africa (CSA) tweet also confirmed the return of the cap.

Smith had earlier said that the cap, which he had been using since his first Test in 2002, had gone missing while travelling from Cape Town to Durban for the match.

"Cap means a lot to me so if you know anything pls give me a shout......thx ," another post added.
