Fast bowler Hamid Hassan took six wickets following a maiden first-class hundred from Samiullah Shenwari as Afghanistan built a 296-run first innings lead over Scotland on the second day of their four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup clash on Thursday.

Ashgar Stanikzai, 88 not out overnight, fell short of a hundred and was out for 93, caught at fine leg.

But Shenwari, who resumed on an unbeaten 50, just got enough support from the tail to get to three figures, doing so alongside No 11 Shapoor Zadran.

Shenwari was last man out for 102, featuring 12 boundaries, in a total of 435.

Hassan then strengthened Afghanistan's grip on the game with a return of six for 40 in 18 overs.

He had Fraser Watts caught in the slips before Ryan Flannigan was run out and the paceman then claimed five wickets in a collapse that saw Scotland lose seven for 19 in 14 overs.

The bowler's haul included four catches for wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad, a testament to Hassan's accurate line
