Brazil defender Alex sealed victory in the 72nd minute when he latched onto a cross from Ricardo Quaresma to ensure the Blues were well and truly on their way to Wembley.
"We can be very satisfied with the win and also the way we played," Hiddink told ITV.
Drogba's goal was the rejuvenated Ivory Coast striker's sixth of the season and Hiddink added: "He's dangerous and I think he's very good for the team as well. He's also making little mistakes. He can still improve and he's working outside normal training sessions. He likes to do that and it is paying off."
In the second quarter-final, at the time of going to print, a double strike from Argentine striker Carlos Tevez had Manchester United leading Fulham 2-0 at half-time.
Meanwhile, the only Premiership match of the day between Sunderland and Tottenham ended 1-1.
