Hot Spot cameras may not reach Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) may have confirmed the use of the DRS (Decision Review System) for the forthcoming home series against Australia, but the BBG sports may find it difficult to supply the Hotspot cameras (an important component of the system).

"We are in a difficult situation to supply Hotspot for both the England vs India and Sri Lanka-Australia series," Warren Brennan, the BBG sports director, said from Melbourne yesterday.

"BBG contacted Ten Sports in mid April about using the Hotspot for Sri Lanka-Australia matches. They said they would like to use Hotspot if they were able to find a sponsor to cover the costs. Ten Sports informed BBG in mid May 2011 that they were still unable to find a sponsor," he said.

"By the end of June 2011 BBG decided to send two new cameras to the UK for testing during the England-India series rather than keeping those cameras available for the SL-Aus series.

"We accordingly notified BSkyB, ICC and the BCCI that our latest hotspot technology will be unveiled at Lords on July 21 and we are expecting that it will remain in the UK until the end of the series."

"Now if we had been informed early enough we could have organised for two Hotspot cameras back from the UK in order to send to Sri Lanka," he further added.

"Once the equipment is sent on carnet to a country then this carnet cannot be broken as all equipment must be returned to the country of origin as a whole," he said.
