If marriages are made in heaven, comebacks are probably made in Nagpur. After Ishant Sharma and Murali Vijay eased back into Test cricket with a three-wicket burst and a tenth hundred, respectively, Rohit Sharma joined the club with a century that made it four in the innings for India. Elevated to India's ODI vice captaincy this year, Rohit had to endure a long hiatus - 14 Tests on the bounce - after sustaining an thigh injury in the ODIs against New Zealand last year, for another opportunity in white flannels.

At the time, Rohit was in sublime red-ball form, having struck a match-winning 82 on a seaming pitch in Kolkata against the Kiwis in the preceding Test series. Rohit's career has been marred by instances of untimely injuries. It is ironic that he should make a successful return to the Test side here at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur - the same venue where he suffered the disappointment of losing out on a Test debut in 2010, after twisting his left ankle minutes before the toss.

"The idea was to stay low at the crease. There was pressure. It's close to 500 days (October 8, 2016) since I played my last Test match so I was a little nervous," said Rohit post his unbeaten 102. "I wanted to take singles to get that initial momentum going. Last year when I missed out on a big home season, I felt a little disappointed. We might never get such a season again - 13 home Tests. But the bottom line is to score runs every time you go out. I don't want to put too much pressure on myself. I'm really glad that I got some runs. It was disappointing when I came here the first time in 2010 and got injured when I was supposed to make a debut. It took almost four years after that. So I don't want to think of it at all," he added.
