Yesterday, even as grey clouds hovered above right through the day posing a threat, fans in this cricket-crazy city didn't want to miss out. Some 50,000 packed into the Eden to see the opening match of IPL-8 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.

In 2013, when the opening ceremony was held here after KKR won their first IPL title the previous year, Shah Rukh Khan was at the centre of the ceremony.

On Tuesday, he was conspicuous by his absence as the Anushka Sharmas, Hrithik Roshans and Farhan Akhtars rocked the Salt lake Stadium.

But yesterday, as the Knights took on 2013 champs Mumbai Indians here, the Bollywood Badshah made a quiet entry, taking up his position to the right of the club house. But not for long, and soon was in his elements, waving to fans and swaying to the music.

Yesterday, the Little Master rolled his arm over, but this time at the pre-match nets. One of the players who got to face Tendulkar, who is now the mentor at MI, was another Mumbai lad, the young Aditya Tare.
