Former World No 1 Jankovic supports the idea for overhead cover at Roland Garros after her Round One match is interrupted by a two-hour rain break

Former world number one Serbian Jelena Jankovic yesterday backed the 116million-euro proposal to place a roof on the French Open as heavy rain swept away Roland Garros' brief flirtation with summer.

The fifth seeded Serb shook off a6 two-hour rain interruption to reach the second round with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic.

Hot serb! Former Worlc No 1 Serbia's Jelena Jankovic returns to Czech Republic's Petra Cetkovska during their French Open first round match at the Roland Garros in Paris yesterday. Jankovic won 6-2, 6-3.

But as rain fell and temperatures plummeted from the 30 degrees of the first two days, 24-year-old Jankovic was keen to see the green light for the French Tennis Federation's plan to build a new 14,600-seater arena with a retractable roof.

"It's always a good idea to have a roof so then we can continue the match and we don't have to wait around for an hour or more and then come back on court," said Jankovic, who was 4-1 ahead in the first set against her world number 85 opponent when the rain came.

"It's not so easy to stop the match and then especially being in the areas when you have to eat lunch. It's so crowded.

There are so many peopleu00a0 and it's tough to focus and to have a relaxing time before you go on court again," she added.

"I started quite well today, especially in the first set. I was controlling points and was finishing a lot of the points at the net.

And then I had to stop because of the rain.u00a0 It's not easy to come back. I felt a little bit slow after the rain delay when I came back on court again."
