Striker credits lucky boots after his brace helps Balmohan Vidyamandir beat New Era 6-0
Riding on braces from Kaustubh Sawant and Shubham Kadam, Balmohan Vidyamandir (Dadar) blanked The New Era School (Grant Road) 6-0 in the Mumbai School’s Sports Association (MSSA) boy’s U-14 Utpal Sanghvi knockout tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday. Pranit Tepugade and skipper Aniket Bhatade rounded off the tally for the Dadar school.

Kaustubh, who plays as a striker for his side, credited his lucky shoes that his father had gifted him one-and-a-half years ago for his goal-scoring exploits. In fact, so strong is Kaustubh’s belief in his shoes that the 13-year-old wears them despite them being worn out.
“This pair of shoes is lucky for me. My father gave them as a surprise gift when I was about to start playing for my school last season. Whenever I play any match I wear these shoes as I feel that my father’s blessings are with me,” said the Class VIII student.
Kaustubh added that he learnt the sport watching Cristiano Ronaldo videos before he started training under Rajaram Shetty at Shivaji Park.
“Ronaldo is my idol and I love the way he moves on the field. While coming back from school I used to stop by stores where large screen televisions were on display to see Ronaldo play. Later, I started watching his videos online,” he said.
