Knight Riders coach Buchanan still hopes to turn things around

Even though John Buchanan bravely tried to protect his team for their poor performance in IPL-II, his job as coach and Brendon McCullum's role as captain are fast coming to an end.

Speaking after his team's crushing nine-wicket defeat to Delhi Daredevils at Kingsmead yesterday, Buchanan said: "I know I was the one to make the sounds of captaincy changes and was responsible for the appointment of Brendon but everyone in the team is responsible for where we are at the moment."

We have not played well but we cannot continue to concentrate on the downside of things. We have five matches and hopefully we can turn things around."

Dropped catches at crucial periods last night they put down four chances (McCullum also dropped one) their batting has been inconsistent and the bowling far from impressive.

Correct approach
While McCullum's side made all the mistakes, credit must be given to the Daredevils for the way they approached the match.

For them, they had everything to lose while KKR had little or nothing to gain.

"Complacency was our biggest problem as we went into this game," said Gautam Gambhir, who was declared the Man of the Match for his outstanding unbeaten 71 off 57 deliveries.

"We did not want to get caught out by an onslaught from the Knight Riders. We did pretty well to restrict them to 154 off their 20 overs. We bowled with discipline and went about chasing the score in an organised manner.

"I had to stay at the crease till the end because we had no Viru for the second match in a row and as the experienced man I had to lead from the front."u00a0

Gambhir's 71 came off 57 balls with seven fours while Dilshan, made 42 off 34 balls with a six and five fours.
