Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) disciplinary committee yesterday recommended a three-match suspension for Mumbai's U-19 captain Agni Chopra for allegedly abusing U-19 coach Satish Samant and the selectors. The MCA managing committee will take a final call on the matter today. "He [Agni] gave us a written apology. Boys make mistakes and though we don't want to punish them, a strong message must go out to other players too," MCA vice-president Vinod Deshpande, who chaired the disciplinary committee meeting, told mid-day yesterday.

Apart from MCA office bearers Mumbai's chief selector Ajit Agarkar, managing committee member Pravin Amre and former skipper Amol Muzumdar were special invitees at the meeting. Furious U-19 selectors shot off a letter to MCA last week complaining that Agni (the son of well known Bollywood producer-director Vidhu Vinod Chopra) had hurled abuses at them during a social media conversation with teammates. The selectors and coach provided a screenshot of the chat as proof.
