MCA elections: No dramas expected

Going by the gossip surrounding the election to elect the committee that will manage the Mumbai Cricket Association for the coming term, things will not be as easy for the Sharad Pawar group this time around. In every election they have established their mandate with consummate ease. Prof Ratnakar Shetty, a veteran of several MCA elections, is unperturbed with the developments though.

"We have 350 sensible voters," Shetty said.

"They know all of us (contestants) inside out. Also, there is a great connect between the managing committee members and the voters. So, when it comes to voting, they will exercise their rights on merit. They won't be swayed by emotions," Shetty insisted.

Also, Vilasrao Deshmukh's entry into the ring has led to many theories. But Shetty feels it is a positive development. "I have known Vilasrao for the past four years. It is a myth that these politicians are always at loggerheads. They have always kept petty politics out of the sport. I feel it is beneficial to have such powerful people in the organisation," Shetty said.
