The photograph has Dhoni imitating a pose from a 'Kabali' poster where Rajinikanth can be seen overlooking the Malaysia city skyline with legs crossed and hand resting on his chin.
Dhoni has time and again described himself as a true-blue Rajinikanth fan.
Also Dhoni shares a Chennai link with the superstar. The cricketer was associated with the Chennai Super Kings franchise as skipper in the IPL T20 tournament and led the team to 3 titles.
There could be another deeper purpose to MSD impersonating Rajinikanth look from 'Kabali' since the biopic on him -- 'M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story' will also be dubbed in Tamil.
The film is slated to release on September 30.
Interestingly, 'Kabali' is the story of a gangster's shot at redemption and how he fights for equal pay rights for Tamils in Malaysia. The Tamil film has been dubbed in other languages like Hindi, Telugu and Malay.
Well, the photo once again proves that at least among cricketers and his fans, Dhoni is 'Thalaivar'.
