One-day international cricket witnessed a first yesterday and Shaun Marsh was delighted to be part of history. Marsh Jr is part of the first father-son pair to have one-day hundreds to its name.

His 112 helped Australia pile up 350 for four in the fifth one-day international against India at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here yesterday.

Marsh Senior did not even watch the innings. "I am very proud. But I didn't see his innings as I was coaching Shaun's club side Freemantle and his mum was doing the players' teas," he told MiD DAY.

Ricky Ponting summed up the significance of the knock aptly: "Shaun's innings was special going by the way he accumulated his runs without taking any risks at a time when Shane (Watson) was going for the big shots. The track was good for batting but you still had to stay there and get the runs and Shaun played the sheet anchor role to perfection."u00a0
