Mumbai's Suryakumar Yadav is not known to curb his natural instincts while batting. However, today he will be tentative while appearing before the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) managing committee which will decide whether he should travel to Chennai to represent the city in the Vijay Hazare one-day tournament that kicks off on Saturday.

Yadav attracted the ire of the MCA when he retweeted a post by cricket consultant and journalist Dr Makarand Waingankar which criticised Yadav's omission from the Twenty20 Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

On January 26, Waingankar tweeted: "You are dropped? Looks like Bombay selectors are unaware that you are the Vice Capt of IPL champion team KKR." The MCA were quick in issuing a showcause notice to the experienced cricketer.

"We have placed this disciplinary issue on the managing committee meeting agenda. At the same time, I issued him a showcause notice and he will have to explain his action tomorrow," MCA Joint Honorary Secretary Dr Unmesh Khanvilkar told mid-day yesterday.

Nadim Memon, a former MCA managing committee member sympathised with Yadav. "I wonder whether the selectors have reported this issue to Khanvilkar (the selection committee convenor) in an attempt hide their mistakes in their selection for the Ranji Trophy final against Gujarat.

"Suryakumar is an aggressive person just like Virat Kohli. How did the MCA issue him a showcause notice without the matter being discussed in the managing committee meeting," asked Memon.

However, Yadav is no stranger to controversy. Last season, he was let off with a warning when he expressed his displeasure over opener Jay Bista's omission from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team.
