Oaks Day drama at Mahalaxmi race course

SUNDAY is not only The HDIL Indian Oaks Day, but a day packed with quality racing, events and prizes, to entice even a lazy Sunday afternooner to the race course!

The Oaks itself, referred often as the Fillies' Derby, has lost just a twitch of its lustre with the absence of Set Alight, who has chosen to be rested before her assault at The McDowell Indian Derby in two weeks.

Nonetheless, a goodly field, including the multi classic winning Icebreaker who shook up Set Alight for a few strides before succumbing to her prowess and the sparingly raced Pune Derby winner, Phenomenale, will be front runners for a record gross purse of Rs 53.5 lakh on offer. The classics this season have all offered record prize money, and the trend continues to be maintained. This will be HDIL's a major real estate player year of sponsorship of this great fillies race.

The horses are surely flying off the Mahalaxmi turf with record timings galore, but with BJETS' association, members and their guests get a rare chance to buckle up for a ride in their Cessna Citation private jet for a group of six to Goa and back with an all-paid stay at the Ramada Caravela, A strike of a correct prediction of the first four in the classic is the key for this lucrative offer to be won.

RWITC's effort at constantly upgrading the range and magnitude of race day offerings, and by linking this to the tote, has proved to be a runaway hit and with the numbers to back this success story. EAT, the European Art of Taste, promoted by the European Union and the Italian Government, have chosen the Club's venue to invite an exclusive gathering of the who's who to not only a lunch on Oaks Day, but to then stay on for the main course of the races and their own trophy, in celebration of the festival of food.

The Mauritius Tourism Board and Naiade Resorts as co-sponsors, will add yet another dimension to a day already packed with an all-trophy card, terrific racing and prizes that promises to draw yet another packed Sunday, hopefully cocking a snoop at the hot sultry March afternoon.
