The petition was filed by the secretary of All Maharashtra State Leather Cricket Association, Luvkumar Jadhav. It came up for hearing before the bench comprising justice S B Deshmukh and Justice A P Bhangle recently.

“If the BCCI can allow Mumbai city team, Rajkot railway team, Hyderabad city team, why shouldn’t players from rural parts be given a chance to play their own separate Ranji trophy?” Jadhav asked in the petition.u00a0

He claimed since BCCI did not respond to his request despite sending about 20 letters, he decided to file a petition in this connection.

Based on the petition, the court issued notice to BCCI, seeking its reply why there separate tournament should not be allowed for rural players.

Jadhav said his association had been organising cricket tournaments at tehsil and district level since the last nine years.
