Ranji Trophy: Railways' Anureet Singh owes a bit to Mumbai city

Railways' Anureet Singh, who last played a Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka in the 2008 season, made a spectacular comeback yesterday with a five-wicket haul against champions Mumbai to leave the Group A fixture interestingly poised after two days.

Singh, who sported a turban during his stint with Kolkata Knight Riders, was not recognisable at first due to his new look, but he soon made a mark by removing top-order Mumbai batsmen Sahil Kukreja, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma. His burst meant the hosts were restricted to 219, taking a slender first-innings lead of 18 runs. Anureet had played three matches for KKR during the 2009 IPL season in South Africa.

"I missed the entire season last year because of a back injury and was dropped at the start of this season. I now have the chance to prove my worth," Singh said.u00a0

Singh also felt that playing a lot of cricket in the city helped him build confidence. "I have played many local Mumbai tournaments in Mumbai. That has helped me enormously, since the culture of cricket is great here. It is intimidating to play in Mumbai, it's not like this anywhere else," he signed off.
