Former Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi accused BCCI president N Srinivasan of "orchestrating the retention policy" to suit his side Chennai Super Kings.

This year, the number of retentions were increased from four to five. ‘Right To Match’ option gives the franchise a right to retain six players from their previous squad.
