Sedate celebrations for Team India after historic series win in New Zealand

India should have celebrated with much more gusto than they eventually did after the third and final Test ended in a draw at the Basin Reserve here yesterday. After all, MS Dhoni's team was the first Indian side to win a series in New Zealand after 41 years.

Doubtless, things would have been different had India won 2-0 but weather denied them that kind of glory.

There were champagne and wine bottles, but nothing matched the intensity of celebrations experienced in Hamilton after the first Test win when in a warm and cozy dressing room, Dhoni's men danced and sang their hearts out.

Indeed, cold and windy Wellington was a far cry. "Of course, I would have loved to win 3-0," said skipper Dhoni, who experts felt should have not batted on the penultimate day considering Wellington's dangerous weather.

VVS Laxman expressed mixed feelings. "I'm coming here (Wellington) for the third time, but we could not win (earlier)," said the batting stylist, who was part of the Test XI in 2002-03 but not in the playing XI in 1998-99. "But, I'm happy to be a part of this winning team," he added.

For Sachin Tendulkar, it seemed the 1-0 margin did not matter, the win did. "Ultimately I'm going back to my country from New Zealand after winning a series after 20 years and seven tours. We all are very happy," he said.

Yuvraj Singh, the king of good times, was over the moon.

"It's a great feeling to win a Test series in New Zealand and I'm happy to be part of history," said Yuvraj.

His mate Harbhajan Singh ruled out having dinner outside. "Food has been brought to the hotel and we will have a gala dinner," he remarked.
