Openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir escaped unhurt as crazy crowds clashed with the police, hurling stones and scuffling with cops, at the Moinul Haq Stadium during the prize distribution ceremony of a T20 tournament yesterday.

As the unruly fans scrambled to come close to the cricket stars, the police overpowered a couple of them and rained baton blows. Angry at this, hundreds of others in the stands began throwing stones at the cops, inflicting minor injuries to two.

As it got uglier, a security cordon was thrown around the players.
