Former presidents of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Sharad Pawar and Ashish Shelar were thrilled at yesterday's Supreme Court judgment which modified the one-state-one-vote clause. Maharashtra and Gujarat, who have three state associations with rich legacy and history, fought fiercely to restore their full memberships in BCCI after the Justice Lodha Committee suggested to rotate their voting rights on an annual basis.

The apex court yesterday modified the principal judgment to allow associations from Maharashtra and Gujarat to retain their full memberships. "It is like a festival day for Mumbai cricket. What we were supposed to lose, we got back — our own identity, our own presence. We are very happy," Shelar, who stepped down as MCA president after the Bombay High Court decided to appoint a Committee of Administrators to implement Lodha Committee report, told mid-day.

Pawar too was elated with yesterday's development. "Mumbai cricket has been saved. I am very happy. My best wishes to Mumbai Cricket Association and its dedicated followers," Pawar told an MCA official after the verdict. "This means a lot. When no other association was formed and even when the Board did not exist, we (MCA) were already established. It's our legacy, pride and heritage. The thought of not getting a full membership was killing all of us. That is why we pursued this very staunchly. We are thankful to the Supreme Court for giving us our rights back," Shelar said.
