Steve Harmison feels sick for having once targeted Hughes with bouncers

London: Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison has admitted that he feels sick to recall the game where his team (England Lions) had a plan to bowl at Phillip Hughes with some short-pitched deliveries, while playing against the Aussies at Worcester in 2009.

Harmison, known famously as Grevious Bodily Harmison, said that he was never proud of hitting a batsman, and he has never been less proud of it now. He further said that pace and aggression should not be at the cost of opponents’ welfare, the Mirror reported.

Recalling his explosive opening spell in the 2005 Ashes series, which saw the then Australian captain Ricky Ponting requiring plastic surgery after being cut on the cheek, he said his biggest regret is the fact that his team had not even made sure if Ponting was alright. 25-year-old Hughes succumbed to injuries he got on the head by a bouncer delivery during South Australia’s Sheffield Shield clash with NSW at the SCG.
