All rounder Scott Styris guided New Zealand to a two-wicket victory against Australia in Napier today.


Chasing a stiff target of 275 the Kiwis lost seven wickets for 234 in 45 overs. It was then Styris who shouldered the NZ innings to seal their first win of the series.


Styris (49 not out) clinched the win with a six over long off from the second ball of the final over from Doug Bollinger with Shane Bond also at the crease.


The chase was led initially by fill-in captain Ross Taylor who had put New Zealand in a winning position with his 70 of 71 deliveries. .

Earlier in the day Australia went off to a rampant start with openers Shane Watson (45) and Brad Haddin plundering 50 runs in just six overs.

Mike Hussey later played a run-a-ball 59 to bind the innings together and post a respectable total.

The second match between the two explosive teams would be played in Auckland on March 6.
