Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi on Wednesday said that losing to Australia in the World Twenty20 semi-finals was the biggest disappointment of his career.

The Pakistan team returned home Wednesday, five days after their defeat against Australia. But Afridi is still in agony.

"I am still dejected. Had we lost in the final, the pain would not have been that severe like I feel now," he told reporters at the Karachi airport.

Afridi indicated he went to the Caribbean with two aims - to defend the World T20 title and to beat Australia to end their winning streak.

Asked whether his team was feeling extra pressure against Australia, Afridi said, "We put up extra hard work to overcome the Aussies but unfortunately we failed, I still can't believe it."

The captain said he was never expecting such a great fightback from Australia in the final overs.

"We conceded 38 runs in the last two overs, it is unbelievable and stunning," he said.

The all-rounder, however, defended his move to give Saeed Ajmal the last over in the semi-final.

"Saeed proved against South Africa that he can bowl the last over, he is a match winner in this format," he said.
