Just like previous editions, IPL-V hasn't been deprived of heated exchanges between players, players and umpires, and the odd instance of emotions getting the better of a cricketer. MiD DAY highlights the 'naughty' boys this season

The bad boys of IPL V

Harbhajan Singh (Mumbai Indians)
In the match against Deccan Chargers on April 9, Mumbai Indians skipper Harbhajan Singh received an official warning and was reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Harbhajan and Munaf Patel were involved in a prolonged argument with the umpires following the dismissal of Deccan captain Kumar Sangakkara.

The left-hander, bowled by Patel, was initially given not out by square-leg umpire Johan Cloete, who felt the ball had ricocheted off wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik’s pads before hitting the stumps. Harbhajan and Munaf were upset and forced Cloete to go to the TV umpire. Later, the right decision was made and Sangakkara was sent packing.

Harmeet Singh (Kings XI Punjab)
Having dismissed the trio of Marlon Samuels, Robin Uthappa and Callum Ferguson, the young Kings XI Punjab pacer obviously had his tail up against Pune Warriors on April 8 during the maiden game at the newly-built Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium.

After bowling Uthappa with a brilliant slower delivery, Harmeet Singh had to be taken out off the attack by Adam Gilchrist for bowling two full tosses above waist high to Manish Pandey. Though Harmeet indicated that he was attempting yorker length deliveries, the umpires, Subroto Das and Simon Taufel, had seen enough. Harmeet subsequently received an official warning and was reprimanded for breaching IPL’s Code of Conduct.

Sourav Ganguly (Pune Warriors India)
Pune Warriors India skipper Sourav Ganguly wore a jersey/outfit that breached the IPL Code of Conduct during their match against Kings XI Punjab on April 8. He was handed an official warning and was reprimanded for breaching Clothing Regulations.

Ganguly too pleaded guilty to the Level 1 offence. However, neither team owners Sahara nor the IPL authorities offered an explanation as to what was wrong in Ganguly’s attire.

Munaf Patel (Mumbai Indians)
The Mumbai Indians pacer isn’t keen on making any friends. After a heated and prolonged argument with umpires regarding the contentious dismissal of Kumar Sangakkara during their match against Deccan Chargers at Visakhapatnam on April 9 for which he was docked 25 per cent of his match fee, Patel was once again fined 50 per cent of his match fee for making offensive gestures during the match against Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium on April 22.

The second incident occurred after Kings XI opener Nitin Saini hit Munaf for two fours. The pacer had more than just a few words with Saini at the end of the over, forcing the umpires to intervene. His captain Harbhajan Singh then had to step in to calm him down.

Steven Smith (Pune Warriors India)
The young all-rounder has helped Pune Warriors all season with his big-hitting and lively fielding. But he lost his cool when mystery spinner Sunil Narine trapped him lbw during the big-ticket clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on May 5.

Television replays suggested that Smith had got a big inside edge and was justly disappointed. He subsequently received an official warning and was reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.

Dale Steyn (Deccan Chargers)
In the match against Mumbai Indians on April 9, Deccan Chargers fast bowler Dale Steyn was given an official warning and reprimanded for a Level 1 offence. He was warned for pointing and gesturing towards the dug out after he dismissed Mumbai opener Tirumalasetti Suman.

Steyn stuck his right hand out to complete a fantastic caught-and-bowled effort. Three balls earlier, Steyn was upset when Suman guided one to the fine leg fence. It was only natural for a quick bowler to make a strong comeback and let the batsman know what he felt!

Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians)
A Chris Gayle whirlwind, a common affair this IPL, infuriated young Rohit Sharma when his Mumbai Indians were on the receiving end of the Jamaican’s wrath.

After the Royal Challengers Bangalore opener made quick work of the 142-run target at Wankhede Stadium on May 9, Sharma was sour and that led him to kick the stumps. He was subsequently reprimanded for breaching the IPL code of conduct. However, he escaped a fine.u00a0
